New Applicants

NOTE: Due to high demand, we are ONLY accepting first-time freshman (FTF) applications at this time. If you are not an FTF and have a unique need, please contact our housing assignments team at 662.325.3555 to discuss options.

Welcome to Mississippi State University and the Bulldog Family! Living on campus is an exciting part of our campus community whether you are a first-time freshman, returning resident, transfer student or a graduate student. University Student Housing at Mississippi State has a variety of housing options that are sure to accommodate your needs.

Once you have been admitted to the university, we encourage you to apply for housing. The housing application will open on October 15, 2019, at 10 A.M. CST. First-time freshmen are encouraged to apply for housing prior to April 1, 2020, to maintain their Housing Priority. Transfer students interested in applying for University Student Housing will be assigned based on available bed space.

There is a $75 non-refundable processing fee to apply for housing. Please note the housing application consists of a few different steps.

  1. Be admitted. Only students admitted to the university can apply for University Student Housing.

  2. MSU NetID and Password. Use your MSU NetID, given to you by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships in your admission offer, to establish your MSU NetID password at MyState.

  3. Online Housing Application. The Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Housing Application will continue to be available to admitted students into the Fall 2020 semester. However, if you need to make changes or edits to any of your Housing Application, you must do so prior to April 1, 2020. Select the Fall 2020/Spring 2021 application term and complete each section of the application. Click Submit My Application on the final step of the application process.

  4. Housing Priority Deadline. Please remember, the Housing Priority Deadline for first-time freshman is April 1, 2020. Students submitting their Housing Application after this date will be considered late applicants. Transfer students who apply for University Student Housing do not have a priority deadline, they will be assigned based on available bed space.

  5. Online Room Selection (OLRS). Timeslots, a date and time to select your own assignment, will begin being sent on early May 2020. (This step in the Assignments Process will be much like selecting a concert or airplane seat). Timeslots will be released in rounds throughout the summer based primarily on your Housing Priority.
