Check Out Information

If you are checking out of your room permanently for the year, there are a few things to check off the list before you say good-bye to your residence hall.

  • Rooms must be left clean and rentable upon check out.
  • Rooms must be vacated no later than 24 hours following the student's last scheduled final exam or 48 hours after withdrawal from MSU.
  • Refrigerators and microwaves must be defrosted, emptied and cleaned.
  • All personal belongings must be removed from the room.
  • Keys must be returned, and other checkout procedures completed while checking-out with a residence hall staff member.
  • Failure to properly check-out with an RA or RD will result in the student being assessed a $50 improper checkout penalty.
  • Cleaning fees begin at $25 and increase depending on the extent of the cleaning that is necessary.
  • If you must check out during a semester, you must notify HRL by submitting an online cancellation request form via my.housing.msstate.edu. For additional details, please click on the 'Cancellation Policy' link or contact The Housing Office at (662) 325-3555.
  • A signed contract may not be cancelled during the 9-month academic year if you are enrolled at MSU.
  • Tap your ID card at the front desk when you leave (this will terminate your card access, so be sure that this is the last thing that you do).

Students who are checking out for the Winter Break should be aware of a few things before leaving:

  • Students must check out of their residence hall with their RA 24 hours after their last final exam.
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Refrigerators and microwaves must be defrosted, emptied and cleaned.
  • Take out all trash.
  • Turn your room temperature (if you have a thermostat in your room) on heat and set it to approximately 70 degrees.
  • Tap your ID card at the front desk when you leave (this will terminate your card access, so be sure that this is the last thing that you do).
